I was struggling today with a new domain name I wanted to register.
I’ll reveal my niche, but only because it’s extremely competitive and isnt’ worth getting into if you’re not in it for the long haul.
I wanted to register a domain using ‘HCG diet’ as my seed keyword. Since HCG diet products have been around for several years, all the best domain names have been taken.
I finally found that HCGDIETAIDS.COM was taken, but I wasn’t convinced that it would be the best one because of the word ‘aids.’ I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it, but ‘aids’ has a very strong meaning in almost everyone’s mind. It’s generally associated with HIV, and I just didn’t feel that people reading the domain name would get the message I was trying to sell on the site.
Of course, you could also argue that it would be the perfect domain because of the potential interest it might generate just by people seeing it written out when it shows up in their searches.
However, I still didn’t feel that it was the right domain for my purpose. I believe that in marketing, you have to lead consumers’ thoughts and emotions directly to your message. Don’t expect them to ‘get’ your message by using quirky cliches, or ‘clever’ blog postings. If your website is selling something and visitors find it through search, chances are that they don’t think like you do. So, they’re not going to ‘get’ your humor and infinite wisdom and intelligence. Just tell them why your product is the best and why they should buy from you.
So, I did a little test. It wasn’t scientific or accurate by any means, and there were tons of variables that I didn’t take into account, and yes, it was very biased.
However, I was just after some quick, raw data.
I asked my 30-something wife (I know her age, but you just need to know that she’s thirty-something), and I asked my 16 year old daughter… “What do you girls think of when you hear Quick Trim diet aids?”
My wife quickly answered “I think about weight loss,” but my daughter answered “I think about HIV.”
As I stated earlier, this was not a scientific survey. I just needed raw input. My daughter and wife would be classified in different age groups, and would each belong to a different market segment in a real survey. And I used Quick Trim because they both know what that is, and my daughter is not familiar with HCG weight loss products.
But, I found the information I was after. With a domain like ‘HCGDIETAIDS.COM,” I probably would have a 50/50 chance of gaining readers, and losing them as well.
So, I thought about this a little further, and then came back to them with another one. I asked them later what they thought about when I said the words “Hot Quick Trim Diet.”
My daughter immediately responded “I think about something that’s going to make me look ‘hot’,” and my wife responded with “Yeah, I think about the same thing.”
BINGO. I think I have a winner.
So, I went on to register HOTHCGDIET.COM.
One thing I realized is that your domain should not only have your main keyword in it, but should also conjure up images of what your audience wants or is after when they see your domain spelled out in their search results.
I believe that these images that get generated in their minds create an instant bond with them because you just made them ‘feel’ something… and that has already established your website as more than just another place on the Internet in their lives. You have already set yourself aside from your competitors, and have started earning their trust.
Now, all you need to do is completely establish that trust by providing good content that closes the deal, and they will buy something from you.
I know many of you have had the same revelation way before me, but I’d like to hear how you dealt with yours.
Please chime in with a comment below.

You heard right… so break out that faux plush white coat and flip the switch on your hydraulics because you’re about to learn how to make money just like the ‘boys in da hood’ do it.
P.I.M.P. - Professional Internet Marketing Publisher.
Now that you know you’re not going to burn in Hell for what you’re about to learn here, you should feel better about being here and about yourself in general.
Yes, I am a P.I.M.P., but I have yet to meet any P.I.M.P.s that actually wear the faux fur coats, so you can put yours away for now. Besides, summer is upon us, so you’ll be crazy to wear one now. So, now you know… the next time someone asks you what you do for a living, you tell them loud and a proud… ‘I’m a P.I.M.P.!’
Gas prices are out of control, the economy’s stale, you’re a salaried employee, and your paycheck’s gone just as quick as it was printed. The credit card companies keep making you offers, but you need to realize that at this point you don’t need more credit… you need more CASH! Today, anything that requires you to travel, leave your home, or use gas may cost you more than you think. The economy’s changed. You can no longer just drive to work, collect a paycheck, pay your bills, and save some of your cash. We’re now working just to put gas in our cars. It’s ridiculous! Everytime you leave your house, it’s costing you big time. I know what everyone’s thinking… the economy changed a long time ago… and you’re right. It did. Except that only within the last couple of years it has not improved AND the margin between a tolerable cost of living increase has vastly multiplied to become such a financial burden. Depending on your lifestyle and expenses, it might not even make sense to work anymore. I hope you are not in that circumstance, but even if you are, please read on…
As always, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe that when things take a turn for the worse, they can only take a turn for the better. Like they say… ‘What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.’ The economy has changed, and ways of doing business have also changed. You used to make a living working 9 to 5. Today, not only can you make a living working whenever and whereever you want, but you MUST. The old school way of making money was to report to work, clock in, be productive, clock out, and go home. That is the OLD SCHOOL way of making a living. You can still do it that way, but your earnings will still be limited to what you can accomplish within that time frame. You get out of it what you put into it, and if 8 hours is all you’re going to put into it, then that’s all you’ll ever get out of it.
Our parents made a living that way. Our parents’ parents made a living that way, but we don’t have to. We probably aren’t making much of one if we are doing it that way. They didn’t have a personal computer. They didn’t have the Internet, and they didn’t have access to potentially millions of customers right from their home… and this is why you’re here, and that’s the same reason I’m here as well.
In this blog, I will be publishing my day-to-day experiences in Internet Affiliate Marketing. There are so many opportunities out there, that I will not cover them all. However, I hope to learn from you as you will from me. I will be open to hear comments and suggestions… for a limited time only! But, for the most part, I will do most of the writing and you, most of the reading… but hopefully, we will all do the EARNING.
I believe the hardest part of this business is getting out of the mindset that you MUST work for someone else to make a living… it’s not our fault. That’s just how most of us were brought up. The other part is learning the lingo, but that’s easy to overcome. After all, you did learn English and maybe a second language. The third hardest part would be an obstacle within yourself… YOU MUST learn to MONETIZE anything and everything. Make that your motto. You must seek a way to make money out of the simplest and most ordinary things. Here’s an example… make money from giving stuff away for free. What!?!? How is that possible? I will show you, but you must come back.
One thing you must be prepared for is hard work. You will never, ever make a long-term, livable income without hard work. Winning the lottery doesn’t count.
TTFN for now, and think MONETIZE…

I’m sure you’ve noticed that I have absolutely no advertising on this blog yet. I know that’s a big NoNo, but I haven’t been able to get around to building that stuff in. I’ve been so busy working on getting my other sites up and running, that I’ve somewhat left out ClickBlazer.
However, don’t fear. I’ve been researching OpenAds and am looking forward to integrating that into this site, so if you have any tips or pointers, please post them.

What’s this blog without a ‘Getting Started’ category? Not much… so I added it.
This site is intended to help you get started on your way to being a profitable P.I.M.P. (Professional Internet Marketing Publisher). Get your mind out of the gutter! You heard it here first. The next time someone asks you what you do for a living, you tell them you’re a P.I.M.P… Wow! Won’t that raise some eyebrows! And isn’t that what Marketing is all about?
In the ‘Getting Started’ category I’ll be posting topics that describe the day-to-day operations of a budding P.I.M.P. and definitions of all the terms, such as SEO, affiliate marketing, PPC, CPA, CPM… all this stuff drove me nuts in the beginning. I’m a network engineer by trade, so I’m more familiar with abbreviations like TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, OFDM, IPSEC, and VLAN. I’ll try to help you cut through the clutter and get you up to speed fast.
